What a Sea Day on Quantum of the Seas Really Looks Like! | Highlights, Food, Fun & More!
Our second sea day on Quantum of the Seas started with a beautiful morning on the balcony. I woke up to perfect weather and wanted to share my thoughts about our cabin location right under the Windjammer marketplace. The room has been surprisingly quiet with no noise issues, and the balcony offers a nice view despite some minor obstructions from posts.
Today was all about relaxation and trying different food options around the ship. We spent time at the Harp and Horn Pub, explored the various dining venues, and enjoyed the laid-back atmosphere of a sea day. The ship was preparing for a big birthday celebration with balloon drops, and there were plenty of activities happening throughout the day from trivia to shopping events.
Key Takeaways
- The balcony cabin under Windjammer marketplace is quiet and comfortable with great ocean views.
- The Harp and Horn Pub burger rivals specialty restaurant quality and is worth trying multiple times.
- Quantum of the Seas offers excellent safety features with very high railings that prevent accidental falls overboard.
Quantum of the Seas Balcony Cabin Experience
Cabin Position and Sound Quality
My balcony room sits right underneath the Windjammer marketplace. I was worried about noise before sailing.
Actual Noise Levels:
- No noise inside the cabin at all
- Very quiet location overall
- Some light scraping sounds from balcony chairs later in the day
- Cannot hear anything from inside the room
I would recommend this room location. It has been great with no problems at all.
Deck Views and Balcony Setup
The balcony offers nice ocean views with some minor blocking. Below us are just lifeboats and a walkway with very little activity.
View Details:
- Ocean views available
- Some obstruction from posts
- Posts do not ruin the ocean view
- Clear sight lines to ports we stop at
The balcony setup works well for relaxing. You get a good view without major problems.
Sun Exposure:
- This balcony does not get great sun
- Not ideal if you want lots of sunlight
- Better for those who prefer shade
Room Selection Advice
I recommend this room unless you need specific features. The room and balcony have been great overall.
Best For:
- Guests who want quiet locations
- People who do not need full sun exposure
- Travelers looking for peaceful ocean views
Not Ideal For:
- Guests wanting prime sun spots
- People needing completely unobstructed views
The room works perfectly for relaxing sea days. You can read, eat, people watch, and chill without noise issues. No problems at all during my stay.
Food and Restaurant Reviews
Harpen Horn Pub Burger
I got a pub burger with cheddar cheese at the Harpen Horn Pub. This burger really surprised me. It came with fries, which I didn’t expect.
The burger was actually a double patty with double cheddar cheese. I have to say this pub burger is unbelievable. It rivals Guy’s burger on Carnival ships.
I was so impressed that I went back and got a second one the next night. This time I added bacon to go with the cheddar cheese. It was just as good as the first one.
This is definitely one of my new go-to spots on these ships. If you’re looking for a great burger, the Harpen Horn Pub should be your choice.
Sarrento’s Pizza
I made reservations at Sarrento’s Pizza for lunch. This is definitely my favorite restaurant on board the ship.
The pizza here is consistently good. It’s located in the main dining area and easy to find.
Isumi Japanese Restaurant
I just got back from Isumi and it remains my number one choice on Royal Caribbean. The food quality is top-notch and amazing.
Everything I tried was fantastic. The service and presentation were excellent too.
My recommendation: If you can only do one specialty restaurant, make it Isumi. This should be your first choice above all others.
Wonderland Restaurant Experience
We went to Wonderland the other night. The food quality is just okay – nothing special there.
But the experience itself is top-notch. It’s definitely something you should try while you can.
Important note: I think they’re starting to phase Wonderland out of these ships. I don’t believe the newer ships have this restaurant anymore.
If you get a chance to sail on ships that still have Wonderland, try it while you have the opportunity. It’s a fun experience even if the food isn’t the best.
Other Food Worth Trying
I also tried some other items during my cruise:
- Poutine – This was delicious and looked really good
- Nachos – April ordered these and they looked great when they arrived
- Drinks – The Buffalo Trace and Coke Zero was my choice, while the Jack and Coke was also popular
The Wind Jammer buffet is located upstairs and has decent options for casual dining throughout the day.
Onboard Fun and Entertainment
Daily Games and Quiz Contests
I don’t have a whole lot planned for the day. I think maybe some trivia and just chill on this nice relaxing sea day. Nothing fancy.
You can do what you do on a cruise:
- Eat delicious food
- Relax and unwind
- People watch from the deck
- Chill with a good book
I’m trying to finish this Stephen King book, Parts of Atlantis. It’s the perfect activity for a quiet sea day when you want to take things easy.
Singing and Live Performances
Karaoke is about to start in 7 minutes. It is bustling behind me in the venue.
The entertainment area gets really busy when karaoke begins. If you want to grab food nearby, you might want to eat quickly and get out before the singing really starts. The energy picks up fast once people start performing.
You can enjoy drinks while watching the performances. I got a Buffalo Trace and Coke Zero while waiting for food. My friend got a Jack and Coke.
Special Birthday Event and Shopping Day
Here we are on the last sea day aboard Quantum of the Seas. You can see they’re preparing for a big birthday balloon drop tonight, which is pretty awesome.
They have a big shopping extravaganza down here today. The royal birthday bash llama decoration is still hanging up. They finally fixed this guy – he was drooping for a lot of the cruise, but now he’s hanging correctly.
Shopping locations include:
- Various retail shops throughout the ship
- Special event shopping areas
- Duty-free merchandise
Christina and Rose are doing some shopping back there. That’s probably going to cost me some money! It looks like a real shopping adventure is happening during this special event day.
The Bionic Bar is about to open, and they’re setting up by other venues too. It’s going to be an awesome sea day with all these activities happening at once.
Deck Protection and Vessel Construction
Fall Prevention Systems
I want to address something I hear all the time when people avoid cruises. They think passengers fall overboard constantly. Standing here on the back deck of this ship, I can show you the truth.
The railings are very high. You cannot accidentally fall over them. You have to actively do something dangerous to go overboard.
Even with children, there are small gaps but no one will fall through. The ship has added extra glass barriers that are much taller in many areas.
The only way to go overboard is by doing something stupid on purpose. These ships are safe. The barriers work.
Kid-Friendly Design Elements
The ship design keeps families in mind. The gaps in railings are too small for children to slip through.
Glass partitions provide extra height in key areas. These clear barriers let you see the ocean while keeping everyone secure.
The deck layout gives families open space to move around safely. Kids can play without getting close to any dangerous areas.
Parents can relax knowing the ship builders thought about child safety. The barriers protect without blocking the ocean views that make cruising special.
Creative Ship Elements and Design
Eye Artwork in Corridors
I found some hallway art that really caught my attention. The quantum ship has this amazing eye artwork as you walk into the Wind Jammer buffet.
What makes this art special is the story behind it. Each eyeball in the display represents someone the artist knew who looked over him. The idea is that when you look at it, you’re supposed to find someone who you know that looked over you. But all the eyes shown are people that meant something to the artist.
This type of personal artwork adds character to the ship’s hallways.
Robot Bartender
The Bionic Bar was getting ready to open during my visit. This is one of the unique features you’ll find on this ship.
The robotic bartender creates drinks for guests. It’s a cool piece of technology that adds something different to the cruise experience.
Different Areas and Dining
The ship has several interesting spaces spread across different levels:
Upper Level Features:
- Wind Jammer buffet area
- Shopping areas with special events
Main Promenade Level:
- Sorrento’s Pizza
- Isumi restaurant
- Wonderland dining
- Vintages wine bar
- Jamie’s Italian
Lower Level Options:
- Harp and Horn Pub with their signature pub burger
The pub burger at Harp and Horn really surprised me. I had it twice and it was fantastic both times. It rivals the quality you’d find at specialty burger places on other cruise lines.
The ship also features special decorations like the birthday bash llama display and balloon drop preparations. There’s usually shopping events happening in the main areas too.
Wonderland offers a unique dining experience. While the food quality varies, the experience itself is worth trying. This restaurant seems to be getting phased out on newer ships, so it’s worth experiencing while you can.
Tips for an Enjoyable Cruise Day
Finding Peace and Watching Others
I find sea days perfect for relaxing and observing fellow passengers. The balcony makes an excellent spot to unwind with a good book. I brought a Stephen King novel called Parts of Atlantis to read during quiet moments.
People watching is one of my favorite cruise activities. You can sit anywhere on the ship and watch the world go by. The shopping areas and main decks offer the best spots to see other guests enjoying their vacation.
I recommend finding a quiet location early in the day. Some balcony rooms stay peaceful throughout the cruise, especially those away from busy deck areas.
Drink Specials Worth Trying
The daily drink specials make sea days more fun. I tried several cocktails that caught my attention.
Drinks I Enjoyed:
- Buffalo Trace and Coke Zero
- Port Side Cooler (refreshing afternoon drink)
- Lido Hopper Special (Maker’s Mark with grenadine and regular Coke)
The Bionic Bar opens at different times throughout the day. I suggest checking the schedule and visiting when it first opens to avoid crowds.
Jack and Coke remains a reliable choice if you want something simple. Most bars can make classic cocktails even when they run out of specialty ingredients.
Making the Most of Your Ocean Day
I plan my sea days around food, relaxation, and light activities. Trivia games happen throughout the day and provide easy entertainment.
My Sea Day Strategy:
- Wake up early for quiet deck time
- Try new restaurants for lunch
- Participate in one or two activities
- Spend time on the balcony reading
The Harp and Horn Pub serves an outstanding burger that rivals specialty restaurants. I ordered it twice because the quality impressed me so much. The pub burger comes with fries and features double patties with cheddar cheese.
Evening events like birthday celebrations and balloon drops add excitement to sea days. The crew sets up special decorations and activities that create a festive atmosphere.
I avoid over-scheduling sea days. The best part about being at ocean is having time to simply exist without rushing between activities.
