First Look: Aurea Suite 14162 | MSC World America #MSCWorldAmerica #Cruising #MSCCruises
We recently settled into our Aria Suite on the MSC World America, and we wanted to share what this room offers. Our cabin is number 14162, and it sits in a great spot on the ship where you can easily spot our balcony from outside.
The suite has plenty of room to move around and comes with some nice surprises. From the moment you walk in, you’ll find extra sleeping space, a good-sized bathroom with a deep tub, and lots of storage options. The balcony gives us a place to relax outside, and having a Nespresso machine right in the room is a real treat for us.
Key Takeaways
- Our Aria Suite has lots of space with a main bed, pullout couch, and bunk beds for extra guests
- The room includes a Nespresso machine and the first round of drinks from the mini fridge comes free
- The balcony is large and the sliding door blocks out all the noise when closed
Getting Settled in Our Stateroom
We stayed in an Arya suite, number 14162, located in the Ocean Key section of the ship. From outside, we could point out our balcony by looking up at the buffet area. Our room had the wider balcony that jutted straight out, not the angled one to the left.
When we first walked in, we honestly thought we might be in the wrong room. The cabin felt really spacious right away. Near the entrance, we found two buttons on the wall. One was for makeup room service and the other was a do not disturb button. We also needed to insert a key card to activate the room’s power, though we weren’t sure yet if it had to be an MSC card or if any generic card would work.
Unexpected Room Features
Our suite came with bunk beds, which we didn’t expect. We joked that one of us might end up sleeping there if we got in trouble. The bunks had a small nightstand with no visible outlets at first, but we found a USB port underneath in a little silver box. There was also a nightlight built in. If you’re traveling with kids, you could block out the bunks to give them their own dark sleeping space.
The room had light switches and temperature controls near the entrance. We also noticed quite a few shelves and storage spaces throughout the cabin.
What We Found During Setup
While checking out the room, we discovered some items left behind from previous guests:
- A comb stuck in the pullout couch
- Someone else’s cruise card holder in one of the drawers
- An unidentified item we couldn’t figure out
- An empty tissue box
We threw away the comb right away and planned to turn the other items into guest services. Finding all these leftover things made us a bit concerned about how thoroughly the cabins were actually cleaned between guests.
Room Layout and Space
The cabin had a lot of floor space and storage options. We found drawers and cabinets we’d never seen in other cruise cabins before. There was even cabinet space under the bathroom sink, which was new to us. We also noticed plenty of wall space that we hoped would be magnetic so we could hang hooks for extra organization.
The bed was a nice size with a good headboard. At the foot of the bed, there was a very large mirror. The room came with a decent-sized couch that folded out into a bed. There was also a nice-sized television and several drawers for storage.
Accessing Your Cabin
Key Card and Entry System
You need to insert a key card to power the cabin. We haven’t confirmed yet if it needs to be an MSC-specific card or if any generic card will work. We’ll update once we figure that out.
The system is straightforward and similar to other modern cruise ships.
Control Panel Next to the Door
Right by the entrance, there are two helpful buttons:
- Makeup Room button
- Do Not Disturb button
These buttons sit above the key card slot. They make it easy to let cabin attendants know when you want service or privacy.
The placement is convenient since you can press them right as you enter or leave the cabin.
Where You’ll Sleep
Main Bed Information
The bed in our cabin is a nice size with an attractive headboard. On each side of the bed, there are movable nightstands that you can position however you like.
Each nightstand has a USBC outlet built into it. We were surprised to find that there are no USBA outlets or regular power outlets on either side of the bed. This has been a common complaint from other guests.
The nightstands are a good size and easy to move around. This gives you some flexibility in how you set up your sleeping space.
Extra Sleeping Options and Adaptability
Our cabin came with bunk beds that pull down from the wall. There’s a small nightstand next to the bunks with a USB charging port underneath. It also has a tiny nightlight.
If you have kids, the bunks are a great feature. You can close them off to make it nice and dark inside for sleeping.
The couch in the cabin folds out into a bed as well. It’s very comfortable to sit on. This gives you even more sleeping options if you need them.
Side Tables and Power Access
The movable nightstands next to the main bed don’t have traditional power outlets. Each one only has:
- USBC outlet
We found additional charging options in other parts of the cabin. Near the desk area, there are both USBA and USBC outlets available.
The lack of regular outlets next to the bed is notable, especially on such a new ship. You might want to bring a USBC adapter if you need to charge devices that don’t have USB charging cables.
Bathroom Layout
Tub and Shower Area
The bathroom has a bathtub, which was a nice surprise for us. The tub is deep and goes way back. It’s not a jetted tub, but the depth makes it nice for soaking.
There’s an adjustable shower head included. The tub also has shampoo and body wash provided.
Sink and Storage Space
We found a small but deep sink in the bathroom. It works well even though it’s compact.
The sink area has a built-in soap dispenser, so we don’t need to use bar soap. There’s a magnifying mirror and a corner mirror that gives us views from both sides. We have a spot to store our toothbrush and other items.
Storage features we found:
- Cabinet space under the sink
- Trash can inside a cabinet
- Two hanging hooks for towels, robes, or hats
- Empty tissue box holder
The under-sink cabinet space was something we’d never seen before on a cruise ship.
What We Noticed About Cleaning
We had some concerns about how well the room was cleaned. When we arrived, we found items left behind from previous guests.
Items we found:
- Something in the tissue box area that belonged to a previous guest
- A comb in the couch
- Someone else’s card stuck in a drawer
We planned to turn the items we found into guest services. Finding these things so easily made us wonder about the cleaning process.
Closet and Storage Highlights
We found some great storage spots throughout our cabin. The closet area has shelves and drawers on both sides, which makes it easy to split things up between two people. There’s hanging space in the middle with some shelf space on each side.
At the top of the closet, we noticed an extra piece that looks like it might be part of the ironing setup. It wasn’t the easiest to slide around, but it’s there if you need it.
Storage Features:
- Drawers and shelves on both sides of the closet
- Hanging space in the middle
- Large mirror at the foot of the bed
- Movable nightstands next to the bed
- Shelves near the couch area
- Multiple drawers throughout the room
- Space under the bed for suitcases
- Under-sink cabinet space in the bathroom
The bathroom has cabinet space under the sink, which we’ve never seen before on a cruise. This gives you extra room to store your stuff without cluttering the counter.
We found several drawers around the TV area. One drawer holds the blow dryer, which is pretty big and leaves room for other items too. Another drawer has the safe, which looks like it could fit a tablet or smaller items but probably not a whole laptop.
There’s also a drawer with a pull-out table and an ottoman you can use if you need extra seating or surface space. Near the couch, we found some shelves and a trash can that opens up to separate your waste into paper, plastic, and food.
The cabin has tons of floor space, which makes it easy to move around. We can fit our suitcases under the bed without any trouble. There’s also good wall space that might be magnetic, so you could hang some hooks for extra organization.
In the small cabinet area, we found the Nespresso machine along with some glasses and shelves for storage. The cabin came with espresso pods, sweeteners, and tiny espresso cups.
Living Space and Comfort
Sofa and Extra Chairs
We found a nice-sized couch in our cabin that’s very comfortable. It folds out into a bed if needed.
There’s a trash can next to the couch that opens to show different sections for paper, plastic, and food waste. Below the couch area, we discovered some shelves for storage.
We also have an extra ottoman that can be pulled out and used when you need more seating. The floor space around the seating area is quite generous, which makes the room feel open.
TV and Media Setup
Our cabin has a nice-sized television mounted on the wall. The remote control is available on a nearby shelf.
Next to the TV, there are some drawers for storage. We found the following items in the entertainment area:
- Nespresso machine
- Small espresso cups
- Espresso pods
- Sweeteners
- Glasses
- Ice holder
The cabin came with dark chocolates and a bottle of Prosecco. Our cabin steward told us that everything in the mini fridge on the first day is included. We had Sprite, Coke, two Heinekens, Pellegrino, and two waters available.
Storage and Security Box
We have several drawer options in the cabin. One drawer contains a blow dryer that’s pretty big and leaves room for other items too.
Another drawer has the safe, which looks fairly good-sized. We don’t think a whole laptop would fit, but a tablet or similar items would work fine. We’re already using it to store a wallet.
There’s an additional drawer and a small table near the seating area for extra storage needs.
Refreshments and In-Room Perks
Coffee Maker Experience
We were really excited to find a Nespresso machine in our cabin. The machine came with several espresso pods already provided for us. Our cabin steward mentioned he could bring different pod varieties if we wanted them. He said he’d bring some more later during our stay.
The setup includes tiny espresso cups that we thought were really cute. There are also sweeteners available next to the machine. This was one of our favorite features of the room.
What’s in the Fridge
Our cabin steward told us that everything in the mini-fridge during the first round is included. Here’s what we found inside:
- Sprite
- Coke
- Two Heinekens
- Pellegrino
- Two waters
We also received some glasses and extra dark chocolates in the room. A bottle of Prosecco was waiting for us as well. All of these items were complimentary on our first day.
Outdoor Space Features
Design and Security Features
Our balcony has a sliding door with a child lock placed high up. This safety feature helps keep little ones from going outside without supervision.
The door slides smoothly and works really well. When we close it, the lock clicks into place securely.
We noticed the balcony has enough space for outdoor furniture. The area feels well-designed and gives us room to move around comfortably.
Scenery and Atmosphere
We have two chairs and a table set up on our balcony. The space looks out toward the downtown area.
From where we stand, we can see the ship is still bunkering. There’s shade overhead from the upper decks, so this won’t be a spot for sunbathing.
Key observation: Everything looks brand new and clean. We don’t see any rust stains or water marks that you normally find on older ship balconies.
The balcony appears high up and well-maintained. Since the ship is less than a year old, all the surfaces still look fresh.
Sound Blocking
The sliding door blocks noise really well. When we shut it, we can’t hear anything from outside.
We tested this by closing the door and listening. The difference was clear – all the outside sounds stopped.
We could hear our neighbor when he was out on his balcony next door. But with our door closed, the cabin stays quiet inside.
Special Features and Observations
Our cabin came with bunk beds, which was totally unexpected. We’re pretty sure that’s meant for kids, but we joked it might be where one of us ends up if we’re in trouble. The bunk area has a small nightstand with a USB port hidden underneath in a silver box. There’s also a little nightlight built in. If you have young children, you can close off the bunk space to keep it nice and dark for them.
The bathroom is tight, but it surprised us with a really deep bathtub. It’s not a jetted tub, but it goes way back and has plenty of room. The shower head is adjustable, which is nice. We found a soap dispenser built into the sink area, so you don’t need to deal with messy soap bars. There’s also a magnifying mirror and a corner mirror that gives you views from both sides.
Cleanliness Concerns
We found some items left behind from previous guests:
- A comb stuck in the couch
- Someone else’s cards in the drawer
- An item near the bed
- An empty tissue box
We took one item to guest services. It’s a bit worrying that these things were so easy to find when the cabin should have been cleaned thoroughly.
Storage and Organization
The cabin has way more storage than we expected. Under the sink, there’s actual cabinet space, which we’ve never seen before on a cruise ship. The closet has shelves, drawers, and hanging space on both sides. We can use one side each. There’s also a very large mirror at the foot of the bed, which is really convenient.
At the top of the closet, there’s an extra piece that we think goes on the bed. It’s not super easy to slide around, but it’s there if you need it.
Power Outlets
There’s only a USBC outlet next to the bed on one side. No regular outlets or USBA ports on either side of the bed, which surprised us on such a new ship. This has been a common complaint we’ve heard. There are outlets near the tissue box that have both USBC and USBA options.
Recycling System
The trash can is sectioned into three categories:
- Paper
- Plastic
- Food
You have to physically open each section. You can’t just toss things in without thinking about it.
Room Entry
The door has two buttons – one for makeup room and one for do not disturb. You need to insert a key card to get power in the room. We haven’t confirmed yet whether it needs to be an MSC-specific card or if any generic card will work.
Entertainment and Amenities
The cabin has a nice-sized television with drawers underneath. One drawer holds a pretty big blow dryer that also has extra space for other items. Another drawer has the safe, which looks big enough for a tablet but maybe not a full laptop.
There’s a pull-out table and an ottoman you can use for extra seating. The couch is very comfortable and folds out into a bed.
Coffee Setup
This is one of our favorite parts. The room has a Nespresso machine with espresso pods provided. They gave us little tiny espresso cups, sweeteners, and glasses. Our cabin steward said he could bring different kinds of pods if we wanted.
Welcome Amenities
We received:
- Extra dark chocolates
- A bottle of Prosecco
- Everything in the fridge on the first round (2 Sprites, 2 Cokes, 2 Heinekens, 2 Pellegrinos, 2 waters)
Balcony Details
The balcony slider is really nice and has a child lock at the top if you have little ones. Outside, there’s a table with two chairs. The door blocks out all the noise when you close it – you can’t hear anything from outside. We can still hear our neighbor when he’s on his balcony, though.
The balcony is very clean with no rust stains or water stains at all. Everything looks brand new since the ship is less than a year old. There’s some shade from the deck above, so this isn’t really a good spot for sunbathing. Some lifeboats that normally sit in one spot were moved out during our tour, probably for cleaning.
Space and Layout
There’s tons of floor space in this cabin. We can fit our suitcases under the bed easily. The nightstands next to the bed are movable, which is a nice touch. The walls have a lot of open space that we hope is magnetic so we can hang hooks for extra storage and organization.
Announcements
We’ve noticed way more announcements on this ship than on other cruise lines. They come in both English and Spanish, though not all of them are in both languages. Most of the safety drill announcements were in both.
How This Cabin Stacks Up Against Others
We immediately noticed how much room we had in this cabin compared to other cruise lines we’ve sailed on. The layout reminds us of the Haven suite we stayed in before. The floor space is really generous, and there’s plenty of room to move around without bumping into things.
Storage Differences
This cabin has storage options we haven’t seen before:
- Under-sink cabinet space in the bathroom
- Multiple drawer units throughout the room
- Shelving in the closets on both sides
- Space under the bed for suitcases
- Extra ottoman with storage
Most other cabins we’ve been in don’t have cabinet space under the bathroom sink. That’s a first for us.
The Balcony
Our balcony is the straight one you can see from outside, not the angled one next to it. The width is nice, and we got a table with two chairs out there. Everything looks brand new up top. There are no rust stains or water marks like we usually see on other cruise ship balconies. The door blocks out all the noise when you close it, which is different from some ships where you can still hear everything going on outside.
Power Outlets
The outlet situation is not as good as we expected for such a new ship. We only found a USB-C port next to the bed on each side. There’s no regular outlet or USB-A port on either side of the bed. We did find outlets near the TV area and tissues that have USB-C and USB-A options. This has been a common complaint, and we were surprised they didn’t include at least one regular outlet on at least one side of the bed.
Bathroom Space
The bathroom is tight, but it has a bathtub. The tub is deep, not jetted, but much deeper than what we’ve had in other cabins. The sink is small but deep. There’s a soap dispenser built in, so we don’t need to deal with bar soap. We got magnifying mirrors and corner mirrors, which give us mirror coverage on both sides.
Extra Sleeping Areas
Our cabin came with bunk beds that fold out from the wall. We haven’t seen this setup in other cabins we’ve stayed in. The couch also folds out into a bed. If you have kids, you could block them out in the bunk area and it would probably be nice and dark in there. There’s even a small nightstand with a USB port underneath for charging devices.
Amenities
The cabin included some things we don’t always get:
- Nespresso machine with espresso pods
- Full-size mirror at the foot of the bed
- Blow dryer in one of the drawers
- Safe that fits a tablet
- Mini fridge with drinks included on the first round
- Bottle of Prosecco, dark chocolates, and glasses
The Nespresso machine in the room is a big win for us. The safe looks like it could fit a fairly good sized tablet, but probably not a whole laptop.
Announcements
We feel like there are more announcements here than on other cruise lines we’ve sailed with. They come in English and Spanish. We’re not sure if all of them will be like this or if it’s just because of the safety drill.
Cleanliness Concerns
We did find some items left behind from the last guests. There was a comb in the couch and something else in the sink cabinet. This is concerning when you think about how well they actually clean the cabins if these things are so easily found.
Special Features
| Feature | What We Found |
|---|---|
| Wall space | Lots of open wall space that might be magnetic for hooks |
| Trash cans | One in the bathroom cabinet, one by the couch with sections for paper, plastic, and food |
| Movable furniture | The nightstands move, which is nice |
| Child safety | High lock on the balcony door |
| Bed | Nice size with a good headboard |
The bed frame and headboard look really nice. The couch is very comfy. We got robes and hanging hooks for towels, hats, and other items. The remote control and telephone let us order breakfast and get notifications.
