Ovation of the Seas in Cabo – Part 2 Up in the North Star, Izumi & the Strangest Show at Sea!

We’re excited to share our experience cruising aboard a ship equipped with the Northstar, a remarkable observation capsule that lifts you 300 feet above the deck. It’s recognized as one of the highest viewing platforms on any cruise ship, offering breathtaking views and a unique perspective of the sea and ports along the way.

Our days onboard have been filled with delicious dining moments, trying different restaurants and enjoying quiet times on the ship. From lively roller skating and games to relaxing balconies and stunning nighttime views, each part of the journey has offered something special.

North Star Observation Experience

What to Expect on the North Star Ride

We rise about 300 feet (around 100 meters) above the ship, reaching one of the highest observation decks on any cruise vessel—a Guinness World Record holder. The ride lasts roughly six minutes, giving us plenty of time to take in the views. If anyone feels uneasy about heights, it’s fine to hold the rail or stay closer to the center for extra stability.

We recommend holding onto the rail throughout the ride. Avoid leaning or getting too close to the doors. Also, please do not press any buttons on the binocular viewer to keep everything working smoothly and safely. These simple rules help make sure everyone has a great experience.

We enjoyed dinner at Izumi with a fantastic view of the Royal Esplanade. Our appetizers set the bar high, featuring dishes like dynamite shrimp and crispy chicken in a spicy chili sauce.

For mains, we tried beef teriyaki, a champagne lobster roll, and various sushi rolls including shrimp firecracker and tempura futamaki. The food was the best we’d had on the ship so far.

After dinner at Izumi, we often grabbed a drink at Boleros or headed to the 270 lounge for entertainment. The Royal Esplanade always offered a great atmosphere for relaxing before or after our meals.
